Project ILL STI

The “Ill STI” — Built for Power, Built to Drive

After the original engine failed, Carlos brought his 2013 Subaru STI to HG Performance with a clear goal: build a stronger, more reliable, and seriously fast STI while keeping it capable of being driven every day. Carlos already had a general direction in mind, and our job was to turn that vision into a complete performance build.

A Track-Inspired Build for the Street

This is far from your everyday STI. The extensive list of upgrades could easily make the “Ill STI” seem like a dedicated track car, but it remains a daily-driven machine. At the heart of the build is a fully built Crawford Performance block, providing the foundation for the substantial increase in power.

Power was further transformed through a combination of custom engine management from Delicious Tuning and a Full-Race twin-scroll kit, highlighted by a BorgWarner 7670 turbocharger. The result is a dramatic increase in performance while retaining the flexibility needed for different driving environments.

The build wasn’t focused solely on straight-line power. The entire suspension system was upgraded with SuperPro bushings, improving the overall feel and response of the chassis. KW Suspension Variant 3 coilovers further transformed the handling, giving the STI a more controlled and capable platform both on the street and when pushed harder.

Built Around the Driver

The complete list of upgrades spans four printed pages, front and back, making this one of the most comprehensive builds we’ve undertaken. Every aspect of the vehicle was considered with the goal of creating better balance between power, handling, response, and drivability.

The finished STI delivers superior handling with plenty of power to get you moving. The suspension upgrades provide immediate feedback and sharper response, while the engine modifications deliver more than double the original power, with multiple tuning maps available to suit different driving environments.

The result is a Subaru STI that combines serious performance with everyday usability—a track-inspired build that Carlos can still enjoy every day.
